The Gig Harbor High School Tides were established in 1978 in Gig Harbor Washington. The team competes at the top ranking 4A level, having a student population of 1700+. The school has grown considerably in terms of size, state athletic classification and achievement over the years. The 1993 Tides finished 2nd in state (see Seattle Times article) and in recent years the team has earned 10 consecutive playoff appearences and several division championships.
Gig Harbor's main rivals are cross-town foe Peninsula High School and league nemesis South Kitsap High school in Port Orchard. The Fish Bowl game against Peninsula is a strong tradition attended by thousands of Gig Harbor football fans each September. Players never forget their play in the Fish Bowl.
